The book of Ruth showed the Israelites the blessings that obedience could bring. It showed them the loving, faithful nature of their God. This book demonstrates that God responds to His people's cry. He practices what He preaches, so to speak.

Don't slip back into the “world”. Be honest in “preaching the Gospel”. Be open to returning to the Lord. Count the cost of following the Lord.

Ruth 1 presents one bleak picture. Naomi and Ruth are as empty as empty can be as the chapter comes to close. To riff on a Paul Simon song they were “She's a poor girl, Empty as a pocket, empty as a pocket with nothing to lose . . .” Even God comes off looking bad. Naomi surely is not looking to God with much hope.

First of all, because Ruth was a very humble girl who did not think too highly of herself. She was also hard-working and gracious, a woman of steadfast faith, who had forsaken her home and her relatives in order to follow the Lord, and one who treated her mother-in-law with respect, kindness and love.

Even though many discriminated against her, God loved her just the same. God does not discriminate, and He loves all people just the same. 2) Men and women are both equally important to God. God cares about men and women all the same.

There are three main characters in this book: Naomi the widow, Ruth the Moabite, and Boaz the Israelite farmer. Their story is told in four chapters that are beautifully designed.

The Book of Ruth relates that Ruth and Orpah, two women of Moab, had married two sons of Elimelech and Naomi, Judeans who had settled in Moab to escape a famine in Judah.
