- What to consider when buying an Easter basket
The start of spring means Easter is right around the corner, and if you have a young child in your life, that means a basket full of goodies to open on Easter morning. While some people like to fill their own baskets with treats and playthings they choose individually, others prefer the simplicity of pre-filled Easter baskets: Pick one and you’re done.
If that describes you, this list is for you, since your options are endless. Choose from baskets with spring in mind (think chicks, eggs, bunnies), highlight the religious elements of the holiday, or are filled with themed toys, games, or candies. Here are some of the most common Easter baskets you’ll find available:
- Traditional: Classic baskets made of wicker or plastic with an assortment of treats and sometimes small toys.
- Branded: Easter baskets that offer toys or activities related to a popular toy or children’s show, i.e. Paw Patrol, Lego.
- Spring-themed: These baskets offer pastel colors, bunnies, and decor that can last beyond Easter and well into spring. They can double as centerpieces, and often appeal to older kids and adults
- Age-specific: Baskets with treats and toys aimed at particular age ranges like babies or toddlers.
Here’s a fresh crop of options you’ll want for the kids (and even the adults!) you love.

What to consider when buying an Easter basket
While selecting an Easter basket that is ready to go has its advantages, we recommend you also keep these key items in mind when finding your perfect basket:
- Safety: Ensure any Easter basket you select is appropriate for the age of the child who will receive it. This is especially true of newborns and toddlers, who can choke on small objects. Additionally, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend sugar or caffeine for children under 2.
- Food allergens and sugar content: With some baskets offering several unique treats you will want to ensure you read the ingredients for every item to prevent allergic reactions or breaking household eating norms (no dairy, no eggs, etc.). While children over age 2 can have sugar, it is important to consider how much candy you’re handing over, and how you expect to dole out sweets.
- Durability: Consider how long you want to hold onto your Easter basket before selecting one. Do you plan to buy new baskets each year, or splurge on a basket this year in the hopes that you can reuse it year after year?
